Riding Concrete Barrels with BeachFit Baltimore
Ok, so yes I wish I lived at the beach. I wish I could see the ocean every morning and go for runs every evening to clear my head for the next day. Unfortunately for me that is not currently in the cards at this point in time, but is something I am working towards for the future. In the meantime, I need to do what I can to get my beach fix while living and working in Baltimore City… enter BeachFit Baltimore.
BeachFit Baltimore is a beach inspired small group fitness studio in Fells Point with SurfSet, TRX, Cycle and BootCamp classes. We are friends and partners with the studio and find that it is one of the closest ways besides being in the shop, haha, to finding your beach in Baltimore. I for one am in love with their surf classes. They have both rookie classes and more advanced surf classes called “Mavericks” that challenge your core to balance on an unstable surfboard piece of equipment called the Rip Surfer. In class, we paddle and pop up, dodge sharks and walk on water with different movements that challenge both the mind and body and provide an amazing full body workout. I think that many of the movements on the board also mimic the feel of balancing and moving on a snowboard if you have ever done that.
The instructors are all friendly and welcoming and make it easy to forget that you are in the middle of the city and not charging big or small waves somewhere warm and tropical. I keep trying to convince them that they need to add a wave pool to really get the full effect, haha.
So if you are looking for a fun and different way to stay in shape for beach season definitely check out the studio. Check out their schedule! Oh, and they also have a pretty sweet deal for new members - Buy a month of unlimited classes for $49!
